Abstract
In certain areas, in-built cooling channels are required to remove the heat efficiently without occupying much space. Cooling channels in electroforms are made by cutting grooves in a metal surface, filling the grooves with wax, conductivizing the wax portion, electrodepositing metal all over and finally melting out the wax leaving the channels intact as integrated cellular structure for the passage of the coolant. This procedure is used in the preparation of the combustion chamber for the engine of the European Ariane Launch Vehicle by MBB, Germany, and has also been used for electroforming wind tunnel models, high energy chemical and excimer laser components
