Abstract

Zinc is well known for its toxic effects, when present in excess in the environment and every effort has to be made to remove the same from industrial effluents before discharging into the environment. Simple neutralization and sludge disposal lead to secondary pollution which is still more difficult to be tackled. Electrolytic removal coupled with recovery and recycling of metal values can be the only possible solution to this problem. Towards this goal, experiments have been carried out for the treatment of rayon industry effluent using a bipolar disc electrolyser and the results are reported in this paper
