Abstract

Cerium hexaboride (CeB6) is being used as a neutron absorber in nuclear industry, in high-temperature applications, in electronic devices for nuclear applications, as decorative coatings, etc. In this work, nanocrystalline cerium hexaboride has been synthesized by combustion in “cerium nitrate–lithium tetraborate– citric acid” mixtures using the latter as a fuel. The synthesized materials have been characterized by XRD, chemical analysis, and SEM.
