Abstract

In any plating process, distilled or deionized (D.I.) water is used to wash off the plating solution from the job. Chromium plating consumes sizable amount of D.I. water for rinsing the plated component. Normally this wash water is let out, which pollutes the ground water. To avoid ground water pollution, chemical treatment procedures are adopted which involve recurring expenses. This paper deals with the treatment of wash water using a solar still. It is possible to recycle the distilled water produced from the solar still. Moreover, the enriched chromium concentrate electrolyte can be used to make up the chromium plating bath
