Abstract

Techniques of suspension electrolysis has been developed for the recovery of zinc from its industrial byproducts such as zinc ash, zinc oxidelhydroxide etc. The process was initially standardised on a 500 amp. cell capable of producing 0.5 kg/hr, which was then scaled up tg 1000 amp. cell to produce 1 kglhour. The process has been licensed for commercialisation and the data collected during the laboratory trials as well as those from the actual production plants are presented and discussed. The merits and problems of the process are also discussed.
