Abstract
Rebars in R.C.C. construction are generally of mild steel. Due to porous nature of concrete structures, sulphate, chlordie, oxygen and moisture penetrate the concrete in course of time and corrode the steel bars even though it has got a passive film due to the alkaline environment. This problem is severe in coastal areas of our country.
